In 2012, the Urubus team won its first trophy in the regular class of the SAE Brasil Aerodesign competition. Since then, we've been working hard to win the top spot. In 2013 we stood out again in the competition, reaching the second position, which qualified us to participate in the world SAE Aerodesign East in 2014 for the first time (in which we finished in sixth place).

 

    Showing grit, determination and, above all, an excellent project, the Urubus team finally won the title of best team in the regular class on a national scale (including some teams from Venezuela and Mexico as competitors). Since "everything that comes easy goes easy", we would say that this title is here to stay because this victory did not come as a gift. As we participated in the SAE Aerodesign East, no we were able to participate in the Micro class in 2014 due to lack of time and resources, so we bet all our chips on the regular class.

 

    The days of competition were even more challenging. Despite qualifying in the first flight heat and flying the first non-qualifying heat with a competitive load, the plane did not take off in the second heat. In the third we had a problem in the landing that invalidated our flight and in the fourth battery we didn't fly due to an electrical problem that occurred just when we were on the runway for takeoff.

 

    In the last minutes of the competition a fifth heat was announced. And with hearts in hand, and eyes on Timão (our official plane), the team watched an impeccable flight with a moderate wind. And the rain that was showing in São José dos Campos, together with the clouds that hid the sun, disappeared for a few moments as if the universe was conspiring in our favor. And at 4:18 pm  on November 2, 2014, Timão landed  bringing our victory to the ground.
